Corporate Social Responsibility is an effective way of ensuring companies and organizations act ethically. As one of the leading indigenous Construction Companies in the country, we try to get involved into communities, fight poverty, and build a better future as we connect with societies for sustainable development.

The awareness of environment, morality and ethics are of importance to the business world. Particularly in the construction industry and other fields of a similar nature , this heightened level of understanding and compassion for recognizing damage that is done to the environment , employees and clients is important to us . With this we have placed regulations and standards on what is not acceptable with regard to treatment of workers, projects and environmental damage.

Compliance to standards:

Recently in the country we have had robust environmental and social governance, legislative systems and institutional capacity designed to protect the people, ensuring indigenous capacity building. We as an organization is set out to meet these requirements and at our sole discretion have been complying with additional applicable standards.

We demonstrate effective Stakeholder engagement as an ongoing process in a structured and culturally appropriate manner. On our projects we conduct an informed consultation and participation process and independently indigenous. All our staffers are experienced Nigerians. We are guided by local content directives.

Shelter Development Ltd. takes seriously the conduct of its employees and requires questionable conduct to be reported. This may include, for example, violations of company policy or the various professional ethics code.

For SDL, good governance means being transparent with and responsive to stakeholders while managing the company for long term success. We communicate with stakeholders through reports and other formats. Governance, financial, environment, social and policy issues are discussed regularly.

Environment:

We believe that maintaining a clean , safe , healthy environment can go hand in hand with meeting the nation’s transformation needs. We are continually evaluating and striving to improve our processes to reduce pollution and waste, conserve our natural resources and minimize potential negative environmental impacts of our activities and operations.

We have a robust supplier diversity program. We offer opportunities to small businesses in the host communities. Women and children are catered for in our health and wellbeing programs.
